Gestational weight gain influences neonatal outcomes in women with obesity and gestational diabetes

Obesity and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are associated with an increased risk of perinatal complications obesity in the offspring. However, impact weight gain (GWG) on maternal foetal outcomes is controversial. Retrospective study 220 women GDM pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) > 30 kg/m2. Pregnant were classified according to Institute Medicine (IOM) recommendations regarding their prior BMI GWG. We evaluated GWG obstetric outcomes. Mean age was 34.7 ± 5.3 years. Pre-pregnancy as class I 55.3% cases, II 32.0% III 12.7%. adequate (5–9 kg) 24.2%, insufficient (<5 41.8% excessive (>9 34.2%. Birth within normal range 81.9%, 3.6% small for (microsomia) 14.4% large (macrosomia).
